Gemination

  • Words ending with -gaq, -raq, -seq, -leq, -iak, -iaq like meeraq, oqaaseq, kalaaleq, double the stem consonant when taking an ending: oqaatimik, meerramik (but not when being derived: oqaatiinnaq)

    • meeraq -nik -> meeqqanik
    • meeraq -nut -> meeqqanut
    • atuagaq -it -> atuakkat
    • taseq -it -> tatsit
    • najugaq -mi -> najukkami
  • Many p-nouns with a fricative [v, s, l, j, g, r] as the last consonant before the final q, that is, ..[fricative][vowel]*q, when followed by an ending [-[consonant][anything]] double the fricative:

    • ataaseq-mik -> ataatsimik
    • kalaaleq -mik -> kalallimik
    • meeraq -mik -> meerramik
    • atuagaq -mik -> atuakkamik
    • iluliaq -mik -> ilulliamik
